A biscuit porcelain standing figure of draped maiden holding cup and ewer wearing wreath. At her feet grapes tied in a bundle with animal skin and fruit in classical vase. On shaped circular base with four projecting fluted blocks and gilt line details.
Provenance
Part of a Bacchanalian table figure set.
When Prince and Princess of Wales, King George V and Queen Mary visited the Sevres factory on 10 April 1908. Mary recorded in her diary that 'we were given several pretty groups in 'biscuit''. A group of biscuit figures appear in later photographs of a vitrine in Marlborough House arranged by Mary in groups according to date. The gift seems to have included figures dating variously from 1906-8. -
