  • Sterling silver rectangular box with an arabesque design in blue, green and turquoise enamel on the lid, and with red velvet lining. In a presentation box with the crest of Qatar. Hallmark 'JM/MG', for 1983.

The interlocking enamel design in green and blue echoes Persian micro mosaic techniques (khatam kari), often used in Islamic inlay. It can be found on wood and bone caskets, as well as across buildings and furniture. The shape of this box suggests it was originally intended to hold a book, possibly a Qur’an.
    Provenance

Presented to King Charles III when Prince of Wales by HH Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, wife of the Emir of the State of Qatar, during the incoming State Visit to the United Kingdom, 2010.
