Hard paste porcelain with burnished gilding | 1.8 x 5.8 cm (whole object) | RCIN 1627

  • Hard paste Paris porcelain miniature tea and coffee set comprising teapot, coffee pot, slop bowl, sugar bowl and cover, milk jug, 6 cups and saucers. Pale yellow ground, with burnished gilded decoration. The tea pot and cups, which are of tubular design, and the coffee pot and milk jug, which are rounded in shape, are each fitted with loop handles. The sugar bowl, which tapers towards the bottom, is accompanied by simulated
hinged ring handles which are moulded to the bowl and gilded. The three covers – that for
the tea pot pierced with a hole – have gilded
ball knobs. A gilt laurel-leaf-and-berry trail on a white ground encircles the tea pot and coffee pot above the shoulders. Running round the sugar bowl above the foot on a white ground is a stylised leaf trail in gold. In the centre of each saucer is a gilded leaf sprig, also on a white ground, which is encircled by a gold band. The rims and feet of all the components are gilt, as are also the handles except on their inside surfaces.
