Flamingo, carved from rose quartz with gilt-metal legs and feet, the eyes inset with rose diamonds, supported on a rectangular green quartz base.
This charming model was a gift from Mrs Whitelaw Reid, wife of the American ambassador to London. Born Elisabeth Mills, she was from a family prominent in New York society. Like both Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary, Mrs Reid was a keen collector of animals carved from hardstones of the type made fashionable by Fabergé and Cartier.Provenance
