Amulet or necklace holding a miniature Quran 1700 - 1800

-
An amulet or taviz necklace formed of a rectangular box of turquoise enamelled gold inlaid with diamonds and rubies, and enamelled dark and light green on the back. The side of case slides to reveal a leather bound miniature Quran manuscript (RCIN 1146163).
Provenance
This Quran necklace is said to have belonged to Zinat Mahal Begum, the wife of Bahadur Shah Zafar (1775-1862), the last of the Mughal Emperors. After the Uprising of 1857, her jewellery was confiscated and sent to the Treasury of Fort William in Calcutta. Zinat Mahal and her husband were exiled to Rangoon where she lived for another 30 years.
It entered the collection in the late 19th or early 20th century. The necklace was transferred from Windsor Castle to the Indian Room at Buckingham Palace in September 1915. -
