A silver and gilt rosewater sprinkler of gulabpash in the shape of a stylised bird with ruby eyes. Flowers held on the bird's beak form the sprinkler component. A pointed finial stopper fitted into its back where the perfume to be filled. The bird stands on a circular base with pierced foliate sides and trail of leaves. Sprinklers such as this example were used within court to welcome visitors.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Mohammad Ibrahim Ali Khan, Nawab of Tonk.
