-
A punch dagger or katar adapted to include two flintlock pistols on each side of the blade. The blade chiselled in the centre with a depiction of a cypress tree. The steel guards, grip and pistol barrels overlaid with gold in a floral pattern and the transverse grip of two bars and ends of the side grips inset with rubies and emeralds. This punch dagger was likely to have been designed as an example of the craftsman's skill and may not be as effective in combat as a traditional katar.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76. No donor is listed for this dagger however another similar katar was presented by Ram Singh, Maharao of Bundi, who may have also presented this dagger (see RCIN 11344).
