Ernest Giles was an Australian explorer who led five expeditions in the outback of Western Australia and South Australia in the 1870s. Giles received little support from the colonial governments in Australia but managed to become the first European to observe many sites in the outback. This is his published account of these expeditions, presented to Queen Victoria in 1890.
