Between 1815 and 1817, the German nobleman and naturalist Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied travelled through southern Brazil. He collected a large number of specimens and recorded an encounter with the Indigenous Aimoré people. The illustrations he made of these people were published on his return to Europe and provided the best visual record of them for many years. This is his account of his travels, printed in London in 1820.
