-
A punch dagger or Katar and scabbard with matching enamel mounts. The blade is of patterned crucible steel, thickened at point with two fullers. The central panel is etched and the edges burnished. The transverse grip and side-guards are silver-gilt, enamelled with white flowers and green leaves on a green ground. The wooden scabbard is covered in golden yellow with mounts decorated en suite with the hilt.
The term 'punch dagger' is derived from the action with which it is used, with an upright fist gripping the double crossbars.Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76.
