A flywhisk or chauri made of split ivory attached to a tapering gold handle enamelled with blue, white and green floral patterns and inset with diamonds. The socket formed of an enamel cup with a central section of trellis design woven with seed pearls and gold strips with a top section as a fringe with tassels. Flywhisks such as this example were held by a ruler's attendants during court and processions.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Jashwant Singh, Maharaja of Bharatpur.
