A sword or talwar with a steel hilt overlaid in gold with floral patterning and inlaid with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. The sword inscribed in Persian "Made at Ispahan," in gold letters. The wooden scabbard covered with crimson velvet and gold mounts inlaid with rubies, diamonds and emeralds arranged in a floral design.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Mahbub Ali Khan, Nizam of Hyderabad. The Nizam, unable to meet the Prince during his tour due to illness, sent his representative Salar Jung I, Prime Minister of Hyderabad to meet the Prince in Bombay, November 1875.
