A flywhisk, or chauri, made of split ivory and mounted in gold with an ivory handle. The handle carved with a coat of arms of Indian punch daggers and a bird. The coat of arms possibly that of the Princely Indian state of Jodhpur. Flywhisks such as this example were held by court attendants during court and processions.
Provenance
Presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76 by Jaswant Singh II, Maharaja of Jodhpur. The Maharaja of Jodhpur was invested with the Order of the Star of India by the Prince during his tour.
