Bush-Life in Queensland is a fictionalised account of the experiences of the Scottish-born Australian businessman Alexander Charles Grant (1843-1930). Grant arrived in Queensland in 1861, where he attempted to establish himself as a cattle farmer and wholesale meat seller. Unable to find a partner in the business and after a severe bout of malaria, in 1878, Grant was forced to give up his ranch. He wrote this book while travelling overseas to recuperate and it was first published at Edinburgh in 1881. A rather popular text, it went through two editions. Due to his practical experience, Grant later managed to establish himself as a successful businessman in Queensland.
