Born in Edinburgh, the printer Adam Stark spent much of his life in the Lincolnshire town of Gainsborough. Moving there in 1810, he worked as a bookseller, publishing several books on the town and neighbouring villages. This history of Gainsborough, with an account of the village of Stow, was published in 1817.
