In 1785, Thomas Daniell and his nephew William travelled to India to make drawings of picturesque scenes in the country. They returned to London in 1794 and began etching and making aquatints of the scenes. The eventual work was published between 1795 and 1808. This an 1816 edition that combines the full set of 150 views in three folio volumes. Oriental Scenery was very popular, providing British audiences with hitherto unseen images of Indian landscapes and architecture.
