Joan Boscá i Almogáver (Spanish: Juan Boscán Almogávar) was a sixteenth century Catalan poet famous for his sonnets. Born in Barcelona, Boscá was educated at the court of Ferdinand and Isabella, the monarchs who united the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon. He learned to translate Italian, Greek and Latin poetry into Spanish rather than his native Catalan. Introducing Italian techniques into Spanish literature, Boscá, along with his friend the poet Garcilaso de la Vega, is regarded as one of the most influential poets in the Spanish Renaissance. This book is a collection of his most famous poems and sonnets as well as those of Vega. Boscá began editing the edition before his death in 1542 and the first edition was published in 1543. This edition was published at León in 1549.
