Issued as a souvenir for the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on 12 May 1937, this book contains 47 swatches showing the precise colours for the flags used, and the uniforms and robes to be worn on the day. It was published by the British Colour Council, an organisation founded in 1931 to standardise the colours used in the British textile industry in order to ‘cherish these colours as part of our national life and preserve them in all the freshness and beauty of their original state for future generations’.
