This catalogue of the plants found in the botanic gardens at the University of Cambridge was compiled by the botanist James Donn. It was first published in 1796 but was continually edited and expanded through thirteen editions until 1845.
The book was not simply a catalogue of the plants grown in the gardens, but Donn also included descriptions of those he thought ought to be sent to Cambridge.
Donn served as curator of the garden, owing the position to the influence of Sir Joseph Banks, the patron of William Aiton, under whom Donn had studied at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
