Benjamin Wilson was a painter and amateur scientist who is notable for his work on electricity and his rivalry with Benjamin Franklin over the design of lightning rods (see RCIN 1090180).
This work on experiments with light and phosphorescence was published by Wilson in 1774. It consists of his experiments and translations of two treatises by the Italian chemist Jacopo Bartolommeo Beccari. Wilson's work on the subject is notable for his observations that impurities within luminescent objects affected the colours that were produced.Provenance
