  • Isaac Watts is perhaps best known as the writer of several hymns, including the Christmas carol ‘Joy to the World’ but aside from his theological career, he held an interest in the study of logic. This textbook serves as a beginner’s guide to the subject. It was first published in 1724 and went through 20 editions.

Watt’s Logick is divided into four parts: perception, judgement, reasoning and method. Each part is then further subdivided. The work was influenced by the writings of John Locke, who is referred to several times in the text. A useful book, it became the standard text on the subject for more than a century.
