Henry Newbolt is best remembered for his poem Vitai Lampada ‘Play up, play up, and play the game’, but he was also known for his nostalgic, patriotic wartime poems. This, his last collection, was published in 1918. Newbolt sent a copy to Queen Mary in June 1918, while Queen Alexandra’s copy was presented at ‘Peace Christmas’ 1918 by an otherwise unknown FM, to ‘Our Queen of Consolation’.
