Herodotus is regarded as the ‘father of history’ in European literature. Writing in the fifth century BC, he is famous for his history of the Persian Wars between the Achaemenid Persian Empire and the Greek world. Herodotus’ history went further than simply recounting the events of the wars, he also described the founding of the Persian Empire and the histories of the various lands that were conquered. This edition of the history was printed in Venice by Aldus Manutius in 1502.
