Caius Suetonius Tranquillus. 1644

Contemporary brown goatskin binding; gold-tooled all over. Design identical on left and right sides. Border formed of four rolls interspersed with double fillet lines: the outer, a triangular roll; the second, a circular roll; the third, a dotted roll; and the inner a cup-shaped leaf roll. Small fluer-des-lis in each of the outside corners, medium-sized fluer-des-lis in the inside corners; one large fluer-des-lis in the centre surmounted by a crown. Inside of both boards tooled with a cup-shaped roll and all sides with triangular and dotted roll. Spine divided into six compartments by raised bands, each decorated with floral roll tool. Second compartment tooled with a double fillet and dotted roll border, with the title in the centre: ‘SVETO NIVS’. Each of the other compartments tooled with the same border, with additional vine corner tools and a fluer-des-lis in the centre.
