Nicholas Rowe (1674–1718) was a poet and playwright. He is most well-known for his plays and his edition of Shakespeare. He was appointed poet laureate in 1715 after the death of Nahum Tate, and wrote New Year and Birthday odes for the new King George I until his death in 1718.
