This volume of early Greek epigrams was printed by the renowned printer and classical scholar Henri Estienne, scion of a printing dynasty founded by his grandfather, another Henri Estienne, in 1502. He was taught Latin, Greek, Hebrew and typography by his father and began working in the family firm at the age of 18. He published many outstanding editions of the classics, including a Latin edition of Plato (1578) which still influences how we reference Plato today, and a five-volume Greek dictionary (Thesaurus graecae linguae), published in 1572 that was the basis of Greek lexicography for three centuries.
