This is a copy of the first edition of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, published anonymously in three volumes in 1813. The famous tale of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy realising their love for each other has an enduring appeal, and is one of the most popular novels in the English language.

It is likely that this is the volume set listed in William IV's catalogue of the present Royal Library, which was re-established during his reign. Previously, it may have been part of the Servants' Library.
