A collection of sixty-seven small engraved maps of actions in Germany during the Seven Years War, 1756-1763. These are all bound together with a large map of Europe in four parts in a book with ownership marks of George IV. An undated note in pencil on the verso of the first blank folio of this work reads: ‘This appears to be the Beaurain Map of Germany – with all the plans etc which surrounded it – taken off & made into a volume.’ The title of the general map suggests that it was originally surrounded by seventy-four small plans (though there are only sixty-seven here). If that was so, in order for them to be fitted round the general plan of Germany, they would have to have been cut down to the border, without the text, and then mounted in a double row around the main map. The small plans in this volume all follow a similar format with the explanatory text at the bottom, or to the right side of the map. The position of the text for each map is indicated in the listing by the lower case 'b' or 'r' in square brackets after the short title and date.
