This book contains the first published translation of the Greek inscription on the Rosetta Stone, found in Egypt in 1799. The Rosetta stone presents the same text, a decree by the pharaoh Ptolemy V in 196 BC, in Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic script and Ancient Greek. Because of this, the stone allowed for the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs which was finally accomplished in 1822.
