Norway’s various regions have very distinctive and colourful local costumes. This book was published when the tradition of national costume (bunad) was dying out, but in the period leading up to Norway’s break from Sweden, the strengthening of Norway’s identity as an independent nation at the beginning of the 20th century helped bring about a renewed interest in traditional costumes.
