Environs of London is a five-volume survey of the parishes found in a twelve-mile radius of London. It was begun by the antiquarian Daniel Lysons around 1790 and was published between 1792 and 1796. Lysons, accompanied by his brother and fellow antiquary Samuel Lysons, travelled to each parish to make engravings of interesting sites. Many of these parishes have since been absorbed as London grew rapidly in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and Lyson’s work provides an important survey of late-eighteenth-century Surrey, Middlesex and Essex.
