A Persian grammar and collection of translations first published in Calcutta in 1795. As indicated in the title, its purpose was to replace the Persian munshi (tutor/secretary) in a students' education. The author, Francis Gladwin, was one of the three first professors of Persian at the East India Company College at Fort William at the time of its establishment in 1800. This and his other publications became the students' standard texts.
