This is an encyclopaedic dictionary in alphabetical order that brings together information about ancient mythology, history and geography. It is preceded by a history of gentile and biblical figures before Christ, and a genealogy of the pagan gods of the ancient world in verse. It was originally written in 1273 by the scholarly cleric Conrad of Mure, who spent most of his life associated with the Grossmünsterstift in Zurich.
Binding description
Red goatskin decorated with triple gilt fillets with gilt floral tools at the corners; gilt fillets on board edges and gilt roll on turn-ins. Spine with 5 raised cords, decorated with gilt tools and titling; silk headbands in blue and white. Gilt edges and and marbled endpapers.Provenance
Bookplate of Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843). Ex libris note on front flyleaf: "Exempl. de M. Crevenna", i.e. the antiquary M. Pierre-Antoine Bolongaro-Crevenna, who sold most of his book collection at auction in 1779. Name of [Joseph] Lilly (1804-1870) accompanied by prices also on front flyleaf.
