Adrien Berbrugger was a French archaeologist resident in Algiers following the French conquest of Algeria in 1830. Moving to the city in 1833, he remained in Algeria for the remainder of his life where he married a Muslim woman. He is known for his research on Algerian history and establishing several institutions in the country. He wrote the accompanying text to these volumes of picturesque views of Algeria in 1843.
