-
This manuscript folio was written by Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1707-51) while still residing in Hanover prior to his father's accession as George II in 1727. It contains many mathematical exercises on geometry and military tactics written in the Prince's own hand with hand-coloured illustrations of fortresses. The book also contains a battle plan of the Battle of Friedlungen (1702) during the war of the Spanish Succession and a detailed ground plan of the Hanoverian residence Herrenhausen, clearly depicting the enormous scale of the gardens laid out by the Prince's great-grandmother the Electress Sophia (1630-1714).
