1916 was the tercentenary of Shakespeare's death. To mark the occiasion, Sir Israel Gollancz, Professor of English Language and Literature at King’s College London and founder member of the British Academy, compiled this Book of Homage, which contained 166 contributions from scholars, poets, novelists and public figures from around the world. 1250 copies were printed, and two copies were sent to KIng George V and Queen Mary. This is the King's copy.
Provenance
Sent for presentation to King George V by Sir Israel Gollancz, 27 April 1916. Another copy was sent to Queen Mary and is recorded in her catalogue of books.
