This volume is an illustrated account of the garden at New Place, the site on which Shakespeare owned a house from 1597. His house was unfortunately demolished in 1759 but the land was acquired by public subscription in 1876. In the 1920s a garden was established there; the central knot garden was based on a design from The Gardiners Labyrinth, published in 1586 and thus contemporary with Shakespeare’s own time.
