John Payne Collier was a Shakespearean scholar, editor and ‘discoverer’ of the so-called Perkins Folio of Shakespeare, a copy of the Second Folio (1632) supposedly annotated with notes and new readings by a 17th century hand, but in fact forged by himself. This volume contains lectures given by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1811-12, taken down in shorthand by Collier and later published. This has been bound together with a complete list of all of the annotations that Collier had ‘found’ in the Perkins Folio.
