Pindar is regarded as one of the finest lyric poets of Ancient Greece and his odes provide an insight into religious beliefs in late-Archaic and early-Classical Greece (6th–5th century BC). These odes were written to extol the virtues of the victorious athletes at the games of the Panhellenic festivals at Olympia, Delphi, Corinth and Nemea.
