This anthology is a collection of Greek poems, mainly epigrams, compiled by the Byzantine monk Maximus Planudes. Originally written in the late thirteenth century, these short compositions vary in genre: they are rhetorical, satirical, funerary, ekphrastic (offering vivid verbal descriptions of a visual entity -- real or imagined), votive and amorous. Each "type" is divided into brief thematic chapters in alphabetical order.
This is a first printed edition, produced in Florence by Lorenzo de Alopa and edited by Greek scholar Janus Lascaris (1445-1535).
