The Sachsenspiegel is a legal text written in Middle Low German. It was compiled between 1220 and 1235 by the German administrator Eike of Repgow, who was referring to a Latin version of the text that now survives only as a few chapters. It covers German law as well as some Roman and canon law, which was applied throughout the Holy Roman Empire in the medieval and early modern period, although it had a wider influence in Europe too. This edition was partly revised by Dietrich von Bocksdorf, Bishop of Naumburg, in the fifteenth century.
