Commentarii de bello Gallico 1473

This volume brings together Julius Caesar’s famous account of his campaign in Gaul during 58-50 BC with a summary of his life. Narrated in the third person, the account is written in simple Latin, which has made it popular for learning the language to this day. Several of Caesar’s claims are believed to be exaggerated, so his work may be understood as a way to promote his standing in Rome.
This edition was the first to be printed outside Italy, but since it lacks a colophon, it has been argued to be the work of: the Strasbourg based ‘Printer of the 1472 Aquinas Summa’; Conrad Fyner, based in Esslingen between 1473 and 1477; or Heinrich Eggestein of Strasbourg.
