RCIN 1057441
-
Tree-planting has been commonly used to mark significant royal occasions. To commemorate the coronation of King George VI in 1937 a large programme of tree-planting was undertaken across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the wider British Empire. Other countries also took part, with a large number of trees being planted in the United States of America. In 1939, this book was printed to serve as a record of the project.
Similar tree-planting initiatives were also launched to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. In May 2021, a new scheme in honour of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was launched, with people across Britain and the Commonwealth being encouraged to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.
