Hayman Rooke was a soldier and antiquary. Following his retirement from the army, he began exploring the antiquities of Nottinghamshire, writing several books on the history and archaeology of the county. This book concerns the ancient oaks growing at Welbeck Abbey, the seat of the Dukes of Portland.
