A collection of illustrations of plants and descriptions using the Linnaean system. Gouan was responsible for the popularisation of Linnaeus's system in France through his various botanical publications. He was responsible for acquiring and classifying plants for the botanic garden at Montpellier and is credited with planting the first ginkgo tree in France.
