The Gentleman’s Farriery is a veterinary treatise on the diseases and care of horses. It was written by the surgeon John Bartlet and first published in 1754. A popular book, it had gone through nine editions by 1788. The work consists mainly of an analysis of the innovative treatment of trephination, a method that helped to clear the sinuses of horses, devised by the French farrier Étienne-Guillaume Lafossse in 1752.
