Beekeeping has been a part of human life for over 15,000 years. The practical applications of honey and other by-products created by bees are vast, and people have taken good advantage of their uses. As a consequence, many books on bees and beekeeping have been published. This book, A Further Discovery of Bees was printed in 1679 by Moses Rusden, 'Bee-Master to Charles II'. It contains practical information on the keeping of bees and the benefits and disadvantages of different hives. The book also remarks on the structure of a bee colony which he implies is an example of a perfect monarchy and includes extensive descriptions of the queen, which although discovered to be female in 1586, Rusden still refers to exclusively as the 'king-bee', possibly in deference to Charles II.
