The Linnean Society is a learned society based in London. Founded in 1788 and named after the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus, the Society is dedicated to the study of the natural world. This history was begun by the Society's secretary, the botanist Benjamin Daydon Jackson. Jackson died in 1927 and his manuscript was taken over by the Scottish botanist Andrew Thomas Gage. The volume was finally published in 1938 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Society's founding.
