Richard Bradbury was an early-eighteenth-century botanist. He was associated with Sir Hans Sloane, for whom he acquired new plants and dedicated two of his works. In 1724, he was appointed the first professor of botany at Cambridge. Although his attempts to establish a botanic garden at the university came to nothing, he did manage to publish his lectures on the subject. This book, printed in 1725 is a survey of ancient gardening and botany. It uses the writings of classical authors to explore ancient methods of farming and horticulture.
