This book was probably bound for use in the Royal Chapel during the reign of Queen Anne, as her monogram and the title: 'CHAPEL ROYAL WINDSOR' are gold-tooled on the binding. In the nineteenth century, it passed into the ownership of Julian Marshall, a prolific music collector. Notes in the flyleaves by J. W. Taphouse, an Oxford Councillor with an extensive music collection, suggest it may have passed into his ownership before being bought for the Royal Library in 1930 by Queen Mary.
Provenance
Probably bound for use in the Royal Chapel during the reign of Queen Anne; later owned by Julian Marshall (1836-1903), the music and print collector and writer; possibly sold as part of the Sotheby's sale of Marshall's printed music library on 29th July 1884; possibly owned by J. W. Taphouse of Oxford; bought for the Royal Library by Queen Mary in November 1930.
